How registered agent cost is counted
Mainstay Filing and every other provider are put through one formula so the pair pages are comparable.
- Year one is the first-year price on the provider’s own page.
- Each year after is the renewal price the page publishes. Where it publishes none, we show n/a and do not guess.
- Three and five years are year one plus two or four renewals.
- Prepay discounts are not applied. Harbor Compliance ($99 for the first year for new customers, then $159/yr. Prepaying two or three years keeps $99/yr for those years.), InCorp Services (As low as $87/yr if you prepay five years.) and MyLLC (As low as $87/yr if you prepay five years.) If you will stay for the whole term, the prepay price is lower than our figure.
- Per-state surcharges and extras are not added. Northwest Registered Agent: Its page says the price has not gone up in 20 years. $100/yr per state for five or more states.
- State fees are excluded because they are the same whichever agent you choose.
The effect is to understate a competitor’s cost where it charges beyond the agent price, and to overstate it where you would prepay. Mainstay Filing has neither: There is no add-on menu: no EIN add-on, no operating-agreement upcharge, no rush tier and no compliance plan.
